Envisioned to arrive for the 2021 design 12 months, the redesigned Sorento is part of a broader thrust by Kia and its South Korean sibling manufacturer Hyundai to prioritize crossovers and SUVs.
The Sorento slots less than the top-shelf, a few-row Telluride crossover which was new for 2020 and is a linchpin of the carmaker’s 5-nameplate crossover lineup.
U.S. product sales of the outgoing Sorento fell 11 % to 95,951 units in 2019, but the U.S.-produced crossover was continue to Kia’s No. 3 nameplate behind the Soul subcompact and Optima sedan.
Kia suggests it hopes to boost product sales with a much more refined inside, replete with the enormous digital display.
“One of the highest high quality inside areas uncovered in any Kia to day,” Kia said, “the intuitive, tech-oriented cabin of the new Sorento retains the spaciousness and a few-row versatility that has characterised the Sorento more than its 18-12 months existence.”
