Mercedes-Benz is dropping the Freightliner Sprinter van in the U.S. at the conclude of the 2021 product year, with output ending at a South Carolina plant in September 2021.
Gross sales are predicted to conclude by Dec. 31, 2021, the firm instructed Freightliner sellers this week.
Mercedes has marketed the Sprinter van, redesigned in 2018, via two channels, Freightliner and Mercedes-Benz sellers, and will continue on to create and sector Mercedes variations.
The firm cited a number of things for the decision to drop the Freightliner van, launched in the U.S. in 2001, like present and long term financial disorders as perfectly as the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mercedes-Benz is also reviewing its global item lineup to reduce charges and complexity.
“The higher homologation charges for a one-sector, lower-quantity item as the U.S.-only Freightliner Sprinter brand name have been central to this decision,” Robert Veit, vice president and taking care of director of Daimler Vans, instructed sellers in a letter this week. “We will be operating in close conversation with the Freightliner Sprinter Dealer Board as we roll out the important actions to discontinue the distribution of Freightliner Sprinter.”
U.S. sales of the Sprinter rose 7.4 per cent to 32,000 past year, and 19 per cent to fourteen,582 in the 1st half of 2020. A Mercedes-Benz spokeswoman reported the Mercedes product accounts for the bulk of deliveries.
