Toyota Motor has said it was suspending vehicle production at its Brazil plants until at least 22 June, joining General Motors which also expects to resume production in the same month.

Reuters noted most carmakers in Brazil, South America’s top auto producer, are currently not producing cars due to the coronavirus crisis.

But other major Brazil players such as Fiat Chrysler and Volkswagen AG have yet to announce when they expect to resume production.

Renault said in March it had shut down production activities at industrial sites in Latin America until further notice, depending on the evolution of the coronavirus health situation.

Ford and Jaguar Land Rover are among those using Brazil plants to make face masks.
